Frequently asked questions

TecDoc licence, the Shopify app, projects, suppliers, billing and security: answers to the 27 questions we hear most.

TecDoc licence & data

Do I need my own TecDoc licence?

Yes. Mecaparts connects to your own TecDoc API access from TecAlliance (API key and provider ID). We don't resell TecDoc data. What your store can show (VIN lookup, images, number of brands) depends on that licence.

No licence yet? We help you apply and choose only the modules your market needs. It's part of our TecDoc consulting.

Which TecDoc modules do I actually need?

Every store needs catalogue data and vehicle links. Beyond that it depends on the market: KBA lookup for Germany and Austria, article images and documents for richer product pages, VIN decoding only where your buyers use it. The free audit ends with a licence plan for your case.

How do you keep API usage and costs under control?

Static data such as manufacturers and categories is cached, imports run in bulk, and lookups are retried with backoff instead of hammering the API. We size usage against your contract's quota before launch.

What happens with unknown or obsolete references?

They are flagged during import with a report, so you can map them to the right TecDoc article, replace them or remove them. Nothing silently disappears from your catalogue.

The Shopify app

Which vehicle searches are included?

Make, model and engine search in every store. VIN search when your TecDoc subscription includes VIN. KBA (HSN/TSN) search for official German vehicle data. Registration plate (VRM) lookup is available since v2.1.0, for 19 countries when your TecDoc licence includes it.

How do I import my inventory?

Upload a CSV or Excel file of article numbers with your prices and stock, add products one by one, or search TecDoc and add parts directly. Bulk imports send you an email report with success rates and any issues.

How many parts and vehicles will my store have?

It depends on your TecDoc access. Mecaparts brings the data your licence includes into Shopify and helps you organise and present it.

Can I try it before committing?

Yes: there is a 3-day free trial, and you can explore the demo store at any time.

Where are the release notes and the docs?

Every release is listed in the changelog, and setup is covered step by step in the documentation, with a section per platform.

Projects & services

What exactly is in the free store audit?

A written report within 5 working days: fitment tested on sample vehicles, vehicle search compared with your market's habits, stock and ordering flow, catalogue data quality, and a prioritised plan with effort estimates. It's yours to keep, with no obligation.

How long does a project take?

Audit: 5 working days. Scoping: 1 week. Build: 3 to 8 weeks depending on platform, catalogue size and integrations. Launch: 1 week. A Shopify store with one supplier sits at the short end; a multi-vendor B2B portal at the long end.

How much does a build cost?

Store builds and integrations are quoted at a fixed price after the free audit and a one-week scoping, based on platform, connectors and catalogue size. Smaller tasks are $95/h with a 6-hour minimum.

Which platform should I choose?

Want to launch fast with managed hosting and checkout? Shopify, with our app. Already run WordPress for content and SEO? WooCommerce. Sell across Europe or need strong B2B price rules? PrestaShop. See the side-by-side comparison.

Can you migrate us from another TecDoc solution?

Yes. We move catalogue mappings, customers, orders and URLs, and set redirects so you keep your search rankings. Migration is scoped like any project, with a fixed price.

I used the Mecaparts app before. What has changed?

The app showed the catalogue; it didn't help you sell. We now connect supplier stock and net prices, send orders to your distributor automatically, and add the vehicle search your market expects. Former customers can start with a free audit of their current setup.

How do we get in touch?

By email at contact@mecaparts.app, or through the contact form, which prepares the email for you. We answer within one working day. We don't run sales calls by default: a written exchange keeps the scope and the quote precise.

Suppliers & vehicle data

Which suppliers can you connect?

Auto Partner is ready through its CustomerAPI, which is indexed on TecDoc references. Any other distributor with a documented API for stock, price and ordering can be added on request; we confirm feasibility during scoping, before you commit.

Which vehicle search do I get in my country?

Germany and Austria: KBA (HSN/TSN). United Kingdom: registration (VRM). Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland: plate lookup via AIS VeCloud. VIN wherever your TecDoc licence includes it. Make, model and engine search everywhere.

Do you work outside Europe?

Yes. Stores built on our stack run in 12 countries, including Mexico, South Africa and Egypt, with storefronts in six languages: EN, FR, DE, ES, IT and NO.

Do you work with ACES and PIES?

Yes, as integration projects. ACES (fitment) and PIES (product data) are the standards of the North American aftermarket. We map your brands' files to the same product model and vehicle search as TecDoc, on Shopify, WooCommerce or PrestaShop. You keep your own Auto Care subscriptions. See TecDoc vs ACES/PIES.

Billing & support

How is the app billed?

In USD, through Shopify, every 30 days. Start is $99/month for 2,500 products, Grow $199 for 25,000, Enterprise $399 for 100,000. Products above the plan's allowance are charged at its per-product rate ($0.05, $0.02 or $0.01). You can switch plans or cancel at any time.

What happens after the trial?

Your plan starts and is billed through Shopify every 30 days. Nothing is billed during the 3-day trial.

What support do you offer?

Email support on every plan, priority support on Grow and dedicated support on Enterprise. We reply within 24 to 48 business hours, and the documentation covers setup step by step. Projects include run & maintenance with the same response times.

Where can I check if the app is up?

On our public status page. Releases are listed in the changelog.

Security & data

Can the app see my customers or orders?

No. The app requests access to products, inventory, files, locations and publications, plus an app proxy for the storefront search. It does not request access to customers or orders. Details on the trust page.

Where is the app hosted?

On Fly.io, in the Paris region (cdg), with HTTPS enforced. Shopify handles authentication (OAuth) and billing.

Who operates Mecaparts?
